Mixing With Emotion is the flagship course of Weiss Advice. The most important principle I teach is that the success of a song is defined by the song’s emotional impactful. All the production processes we learn (compression, reverb, distortion, eq, etc.) are simply the tools we use to clarify the emotional intention. This is true for any genre of music, from Hip Hop, to Rock, to Pop, EDM, Classical; whatever it may be! It’s all about FEEL, it’s all about VIBE, it’s all about EMOTION!
In this course we learn how to identify the emotion of a song and how the musical elements are conveying that emotion. This leads us to our balancing choices – raising the elements that give us the feel, lowering the ones that are there as support. Then we use signal processing to link the sonic qualities of these elements to the feeling they create. Can we use EQ to create Sadness? Can we use Compression to enhance Joy? Can Reverb or Distortion bring out a sense of Nostalgia? You bet they can!
